Eliminators on the Market (March 2021)

Hope your winter projects are in the home stretch! I still have to wrap up my radiator issues and swap out my fuel sending unit. Then I’ll reevaluate if I’m going to do anything else or just start driving it as weather permits.

BEWARE OF SCAM LISTINGS OF ELIMINATORS FOR SALE!
Scammers are using pictures from legitimate listings (old and current) and passing them off as their car that is for sale, at prices well below market value. Always verify the car is real and the VIN is legitimate by checking with the CCOA or Eliminator Registry.
Also be sure to order your own Marti Report. Scammers have been doctoring Marti’s and changing VINs. Marti will not charge you for an invalid VIN.
Never send a deposit without confirming there is actually a real Eliminator associated with the listing.
And as always, remember that if it is too good to be true then it is probably a scam.

The Eliminator from GAA is for sale at Southern Motors for 58,900. Which means it either didn’t really sell at 47k or someone is trying to flip it for a couple grand profit. Seems like the asking price on this one is getting into the stratosphere…

That car makes me crazy. Such great potential with so many silly and easy to fix mistakes.

Just took a look at this one and it’s still listed for sale on the Muscle Car Garage website: “'69 w/ 428CJ, Auto. Bright Yellow, Black Interior. Docs. In NJ for $105k” I can’t recall what AACA show I saw this at but remember the restoration was impressive. Thanks for posting the information and link to the Hemmings article on it.

According to the Hemmings article this was Barry Zortman’s car. Since Barry is located in the south central PA area I know that he showed this car at the Fall Hershey AACA meet. He may also have taken it to other semi local shows.

Thanks for the update! RK also has it listed on eBay. Poor car needs a solid owner instead of just dealers shuffling it from auction to auction.

Thank you. Yes, It must have been Hershey where I saw it. Not sure what year(s). I’ve been to many… Hope to be back there this year.

1968 1/2, ‘R’ Code, Cougar… 1 of 15 (Bill Quay)… No, it doesn’t have the original, 428 CJ… BUT, it DOES have, the original, Ram Air scoop with 8 mounting locations, as opposed to the 10 mounting locations found on later 69-70 models. This car also has the, 1/8”, shock tower support plates, a feature found EXCLUSIVELY on 428 CJ and Boss 302 equipped vehicles. Car runs and drives quite well as, my son has invested a few thousand dollars, very recently, to make the car drivable.

We think the car is worth asking, $35,000 for… no reasonable cash offer refused… the car should go to someone that can restore it back to it’s original, 428 CJ, Bad Ass self and, in doing so, would have a VERY high dollar and rare Merc… 4 zero six, 890, twenty 37… just testing the waters.

Where is it located and does it have a 428 replacement block in it now? Do you have the Marti report?

Note: Admin may move this post since it is not a 69-70 Eliminator.

Looks like a 302 or something. That car is missing an absolute ton of $ in 428 parts (easily over $20k). Cool car none the less. Automatic I assume?

Car is located in, Kalispell Montana and yes, it is an automatic… the car has been in the condition you see here, less wheels and tires, since 1982. The car still maintains the original 31 spline, 9in. rear axle with posi… there is a 302 in it now that runs o.k…

Sorry if this is a repeat, I couldn’t find it in the list. VIN 9F91M563323 in Texas.

Thanks! New one for the list. It was previously seen in 2011, also on eBay, and in the same condition.

Mike- What is “Trim Variation” on the Marti referring to?

I do not know exactly what the trim variation is but I can say that it appears to be connected to the interior. The regular interior code would be 5A, looking at the Marti the interior code is 5A1. My guess is that it was ordered with the standard style door and rear side panels instead of the decore style that was a part of the 1969 Eliminator package. If we could see the Eminger report that might spell out what the variation was.

Agree, 59k is way out there for this one.

Good question! I’ve looked into this in the past but was not able to narrow down to a definitive answer… until just now, when I was reviewing the information in my files. I need to confer with some others before I throw my findings out there, but I can give you this info for now…

Kevin Marti describes the difference between the 5A and the 5A1 interior in his Mustang and Cougar Tag Book.
5A / 5A1 interior trim deviation = a deviation in the Door Panel and Interior Rear Quarter Trim Panels.

5A1 → the number “1” indicates a deviation component that will not be serviced. i.e. the interior trim panel that has the deviation is not going to be an item that is regularly stocked for repair or replacement.
5AA → in the case of a second letter, such as “A”, the letter would indicate a deviation component that IS going to be serviced. i.e. there will be identical components available in stock for service repairs.
This is important to differentiate for warranty claims, where replacing a non-serviced part with a serviced part might show an obvious difference in appearance.

More on this later…
