I went to look at this car this past weekend after calling and setting up an appointment to view the car.

The owner is a real meat ball, we had multiple phone & text conversations, set up the viewing for Sunday, drove 65 miles and 90 minutes one way to check it out. Purposely put the viewing off Saturday because of really bad weather.

Got there and the car was buried in the back of a large garage, under a 4 post lift with another car on the lift and blocked in by about 5 other cars that could not be moved, with no real way to inspect it at all.

He did however offer me his cell phone light to use for inspection purposes.

Complete and total wast of time, and of course the owner didn’t understand what the issue was.

I think he figured that would be good enough to fork over 30k???

Thanks, Mike H.

Wow I’m not sure how I would react! Good to know as I was considering making the 5 hour drive to see this one!! Good lesson learned for me (make sure seller knows I actually want to touch and sit in the car!) thanks for sharing your pain Mike.

Yeah, that sounds painful :wall:

He’s had it listed for sale for a few years now too. Maybe poor salesmanship technique is part of the reason why?

Not to make light of your wasted time. I wouldnt move all of that with the hopes someone shows up to look at a car. I cant tell you how many time I waited for someone to show and didnt.

But if you want to sell your car people have to be able to look at it.

Looks like another one headed to auction.

I believe this is 9F91S580693, but I don’t have confirmation yet.
9F91S580693 was previously sold for $31k at Mecum Indy 2014: https://www.mecum.com/lots/SC0514-183275/

Here is another one that popped up, is this a 1969 factory color?
https://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/cars-for-sale/mercury/cougar/2217473.html

It looks more like Grabber Blue to me. A closer look at this car would be in order. I see 70 side marker lights and it looks like 70 front seat belt retractors.

Randy Goodling
CCOA #95

Side glass looks to be 69, the seat belts are deluxe 70 parts. If you look at the rear seat belt peeking out you can see it. I agree with Mike, this needs a good set of eyes on it.

Fellahs, that one is Competition Blue. It is not a '69 factory color, although I imagine you could have special ordered it if you had the right paint codes.
Used to belong to Scott Gregory, who was a member here (or maybe it was on MC.net?). I recall there being some questions about the side markers at that time as well.

Don’t have a VIN for this one yet. Looks pretty sharp though. No reserve at a small auction venue, might sell for reasonable money!

Mike-what about this one:

https://phoenix.craigslist.org/cph/cto/d/sacramento-1969-mercury-cougar/6796199832.html

Testing my newbie knowledge… this interior shot leads me to think not authentic Eliminator. Would I be correct?
I asked seller for Matri but no response yet.

I can’t give you what the Marti report would say, but I see 69 high back seats. The dash bezels may not be correct, but it is hard to tell in this picture. The center courtesy lights may not be correct. Everything else looks OK for a 69 Eliminator

That is Michael Tatro’s car. It is real. Michael has a constantly rotating car collection / classic car business. He’s had this Eliminator for quite a while though.

The what appears to be brown rather than black instrument panel and courtesy lights were giving me pause.
