dash speaker mounting question

I have a '68 XR-7 that originally came with AM/8-track stereo. It has two speakers mounted behind the kick panels but I would like to install two small speakers in the dash.

From what I can tell, there are provisions in the sheet metal for some sort of mounting hardware. It looks like maybe a small carriage bolt would work.

Does anyone have a picture of the mounts or have some they’d be willing to drop in an envelope for me for a minimal fee?

Thanks.

I don’t have a picture handy. But I took the original speaker and used it as a template to make a bracket to hold a pair of small rounds. I don’t remember the exact size. But my hunch is 3.5" You don’t get much separation with the sound. But it does add some nice fill.

You can buy dual speeker set up like this one,

Or use the idea and make your own bracket. Check out the options WCCC has here.

Unfortunately, I don’t have a dash speaker. I don’t think the car came with one. Hence, my mounting question.

I found some more info in this post: https://cccforum.discoursehosting.net/t/1967-68-dash-speaker/6284/1

I was correct in my assumption that there are two bolts/studs that are used to mount the speaker.

Does anyone have a set of mounts that they would be willing to part with?

Thanks.

Glad you found my earlier post useful. Re-reading it just now, I guess it would be good to add what I finally did, which I’ll do shortly. It will include a photo of the dash, from below, sans speaker and showing the mounting bolts (though I didn’t record what size they are). Cheers,

nate

That’s close to what mine looks like.
