Dash pad speaker

I took off the dash pad so I could change the speedometer cable. I still have the original speaker in the pad, disconnected long ago when I upgraded the sound.

I was wondering if I could put in a decent speaker there and hook it up to the front speakers wiring? Worth it?

Also, there are two wires off the speaker, but those two wires go into a connector and three wires come out the other side. I’m kinda curious what that’s about? If I hook up a new dash pad speaker, is there any reason I would need three wires? Thx

Not sure of the wiring but now would be the time to replace the dash speaker regardless if you ever use it. Have to think the third wire is some sort of ground to prevent static.

They make dual coil replacement like this one that can take a stereo input or could hook up as mono.

There are cheaper ones but regardless not going to be amazing sound but much, much better than stock. It’s a while you’re there situation as is a major project to just do the speaker so no down side but the cost of the speaker.

Thx

The link to Summit is for a 4x10 speaker. The dash speaker is not that big. I’ll keep looking.

If I remember right I got mine from WCCC and it fit perfect. See link below.
Sound is actually good for 2 small speakers.

Check RetroSound (retromanufacturing.com) for speakers. They have a selection of 5X7 dash speakers including dual voice coils so you can get stereo out of one speaker. They also have 4X8 door speakers designed for 67-71 mustangs/cougars. Been doing a speaker search and leads seem to go back to them.
