Aftermarket shocks for 67-68

Hi everyone, im looking to replace the rear shocks on my 68 cougar (the cheap airshocks the previous owner installed don’t work anymore). I’ve found a nice one listed on cj pony parts, but theres no info on whether its compatible on cougars. I’m wondering if anyone has used this shock before or has found one similar that does work? the part number is #C5ZZ-18125-HP. thanks to all

Those are Mustang shocks. They are a bit short for Cougar. Maybe with extenders they would work.

I don’t remember where I saw it, but I read that shocks for a 1978 AMC AMX are the correct length for a 67-68 Cougar. We put those on our 68 along with new leaf springs with 1" extra arch and it worked out good to get rid of the air shocks.

Would the shorter Mustang shocks help lower the rear??

No, won’t affect ride height. And when you put the car on a lift, the Mustang shocks, not the springs, will be supporting most of the rear axle weight. Not the end of the world, but not right, and not the best for your upper shock mounts that are only reinforced sheet metal. One reason Cougar people talk about getting the correct travel shocks.

alright thanks crzycat, ill look into it!

Gabriel still makes the correct rear shocks for our Cougars.
