“68XR7GT @DonRush, per Cougar by the Numbers there were 4855 S code Cougars built in 1968. There were 2800 Cougars equipped with the GT option. At least a few of those 2800 were 428 CJ cars, leaving at least 2055 non-GT S code Cougars built in 1968.”
Anyone recall seeing a 68 390 S code equipped car with a Holley that was not a GT? I always see X code or S code GT but do not recall seeing something in between with 6.5 Litre emblems (except the xr7G).
Weird I would go all these years without knowingly owning one. Did they come with the GT chrome package on the engine? I assume so. The one in the link has it all including disc brakes just no heavy duty suspension.
This is true for 67 and 68 and a S code came in both 390 equipted cars, the GT and the 6.5 liter. The only difference for 67 was the air filter housing between the GT and 6.5 liter I not sure about the air filter housing for 68.
Don’t know why they would be any different than the Mustangs build on the same line so would expect all S codes in 68 to have Holleys. Books on carbs support this
And yes the chrome items on the engine were the same on no matter which appearance package (GT and non-GT) was ordered with the car. As many have Do have pictures of one without the chromed air cleaner lid (valve covers are chromed) but that could be explained away and would need more examples to support a trend or pattern. Would also mention that one example was a Dearborn built car
Well at least our website has it right (Thanks to Scott). So now there are 2 Cougars I have never owned on my bucket list. 68 S code non GT and a 69 BOSS Eliminator.
